Image Description
A partial colectomy specimen showing broad-based, irregularly-shaped ulcers running along the long axis of the specimen. Against the backdrop of mucosal ulceration, islands of residual (non-ulcerated) and regenerating mucosa bulge into the lumen creating pseudopolyps. The pseudopolyps are usually small and multiple. On occasion, they may be quite large (as in this case) and raise the concern for malignancy.
