Image Description
Hidraednoma papilliferum shares morphologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic features (PIK3CA and AKT1 mutations) with intraductal papilloma of the breast and nipple adenoma. This has given rise to suggestions that it likely originates from anogenital mammary-like glands.
This case of hidradenoma papilliferum was removed from a female in the post-partum period. The tumor shows well-developed lactational changes. This is in keeping with the postulated origin from anogenital mammary gland-like tissue (ectopic breast tissue).
