Image Description
Ameloblastomas display a wide variety of architectural patterns under the microscope, including follicular, plexiform, acanthomatous, basaloid, granular cell, and desmoplastic. Multiple patterns often coexist and they have no clinical significance.
Desmoplastic variants show thin cords or strands of odontogenic epithelium in a densely collagenized stroma. Peripheral palisading may not be apparent. Secretion of transforming growth factor-beta is responsible for the dense sclerotic stroma.
