Comments:
Nests of tumor cells are seen filling up the alveolar spaces. Small cell carcinomas have a much stronger relationship with cigarette smoking than squamous cell and adenocarcinomas. It has been estimated that less than 1% of small cell carcinomas occur in non-smokers. The cells in small cell carcinoma exhibit neither glandular nor squamous differentiation by definition.
