Comments:
Note the presence of cytoplasmic vacuoles at either ends of the nuclei in a GIST. These are artifacts of fixation typically seen in benign-behaving GISTs. This feature, plus the presence of acidophilic cytoplasm, is usually an indicator of smooth muscle differentiation in a GIST.
