Comments:
The WHO describes several histologic HCC patterns, including trabecular, acinar, solid, and scirrhous. The solid (compact) pattern HCC is relatively uncommon and comprises sheets of tumor cells lacking endothelial cell-wrapped trabeculae or cell plates (as seen here). Compressed trabeculae may be identified using endothelial cell immunomarkers. Solid areas usually show loss of the reticulin fiber network, which is characteristic of HCC.
