Comments:
Nephrogenic adenoma can involve prostatic stroma and show up in a TUR specimen or a prostate needle biopsy (shown here). It is composed of small tubules lined by cuboidal epithelium with bland nuclei and punctate nucleoli. Mitotic activity is not increased. PAX2 was strongly positive in the nuclei of the cuboidal cells in this case confirming the diagnosis. Given the rarity of this lesion, it has been mistaken for low-grade prostatic cancer when found in a needle biopsy.
