Comments:
Malakoplakia usually involves urinary tract but may, on occasion, involve vagina. The pathogenetic mechanism is inability to digest bacteria due to defective macrophage function. The lesion consists of an infiltrate of neutrophils, plasma cells, lymphocytes, and macrophages containing laminated structures (Michaelis-Gutmann bodies) with targetoid appearance.
