Comments:
Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the thymus is histologically identical to that seen in the lung. Therefore, mediastinal metastases from a pulmonary tumor must be ruled out before making the diagnosis of a primary small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the thymus. The tumor cells show scant cytoplasm, increased mitotic activity, numerous apoptotic bodies, finely granular chromatin, and inconspicuous nucleoli.
