Comments:
The nuclei of small cell carcinoma commonly show crush artifact with elongation and clumping of chromatin material. The basophilic appearance of the vessel wall in the center of the image is the result of chromatin diffusion and encrustation of DNA from the necrotic tumor cells onto the vessel wall. It is referred to as Azzopardi effect.
