Chronic hepatitis B infection often results in cirrhosis with nodules of damaged and regenerating hepatocytes separated by fibrous bands containing chronic inflammatory cell infiltrates and a ductular reaction. Nodules < 3 mm, as seen here, are designated “micronodular cirrhosis” while those > 3 mm are “macronodular.”
