Comments:
Mitotically active leiomyomas occur predominantly in postmenopausal women. They show 5 or more mitoses/10 HPF (Usually 5-15 mitoses/10 HPF), but lack coagulative necrosis and cytologic atypia. In this high power field, 2 typical mitotic figures (MF) are noted. The patient's hormonal status may play a role in the proliferation index, since those removed during the secretory phase or those removed from women who are taking progestins, have higher mitotic rates.
