Goblet Cell Carcinoid, Group A

Comments:
A case of typical goblet cell carcinoid (Group A) showing pools of mucin. Acute and chronic inflammatory cells are scattered in between tumor cells. About one third of group A goblet cell carcinoids show metastases at the time of presentation. Extra-appendiceal sites commonly involved include right colon, ileum, peritoneum, omentum as well as ovaries. Ovaries are the most commonly involved site in females, usually presenting as Krukenberg tumors. Management of group A GCC generally consists of right hemicolectomy which may be followed by systemic or intraperitoneal adjuvant chemotherapy. The overall prognosis for this group A tumors is favorable with disease-specific survival around 96%.
