Comments:
This is the classical gross appearance of a leiomyoma, a well circumscribed bulging mass with rubbery consistency. Section on the right reveals the classic whorled tan-white cut surface; however the appearance of a leiomyoma can be altered by degenerative changes. Leiomyomas are the most common uterine neoplasm. Most are detected in middle aged women. They can be solitary or multiple, located anywhere in the myometrium and despite the variety of histologic subtypes, all are grossly similar.
