Comments:
Close up of the previous specimen showing Marjolin's ulcer in an above knee amputation. The patient had history of extensive trauma to the affected leg several years back. Such cases are now rare in developed countries. In developing countries, however, they are not uncommon. The neoplastic transformation takes years or even decades to occur. Despite most cases being well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, these tumors behave aggressively and have poor prognosis. Case courtesy of: Dr. Sanjay D. Deshmukh, Professor of Pathology, Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College, Pune, India.
