Urothelial Carcinoma-in-situ

slide 10 of 20

Comments:
Urothelial CIS is a discohesive lesion frequently shedding neoplastic cells in the urine with thinning of the urothelial lining. The neoplastic cells show pleomorphic hyperchromatic nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. Notwithstanding the acute inflammation in the underlying lamina propria, the degree of cytologic and architectural atypia seen here is diagnostic of CIS.
