Comments:
The cell of origin is melanocytes found in cervical epithelium of approx. 3% of women. Most patients are between 50 and 70 yrs. of age. Presenting features usually include vaginal bleeding or discharge. The image shows sheets of polygonal and spindle cells with fine brown intracytoplasmic pigment. About 25% of cases lack pigment.   return to Melanotic Lesions
