Higher magnification of an atrial myxoma showing tumor cells in abundant loose stroma composed of mucopolysaccharides. Simple excision of the tumor is curative in most cases. With modern surgical techniques, recurrences are rare. The tumor may pursue an aggressive course in rare cases with invasion of the chest wall or distant metastases.
