Eosinophilic Myocarditis

slide 2 of 8

Comments:
Eosinophilis predominate in the inflammatory infiltrate in this image. Myocyte destruction is not prominent. There are many possible causes of myocarditis, including bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic agents (Toxoplasmosis, Chagas disease), collagen vascular diseases, granulomatous (sarcoidosis, tuberculosis), drug-induced (Adriamycin, Cyclophosphamide), and radiation. Eosinophilic myocarditis is often drug-induced and may also be seen in up to 20% of explanted heart of cardiac transplant patients.
