Topic: Elastofibroma

Category: Fibrous Tissue

Comments:
The serrated disks or globular structures are clearly seen in this high power view of an elastofibroma. Elastofibroma is now considered to be a pseudoneoplastic process with a benign course. The lesion is composed of types I, II, and III collagen and chemically abnormal elastin fibers. Mechanical friction between scapula and the underlying chest wall is the main inciting factor.   return to Elastofibroma
