Immunohistochemical Profile of Spindle Cell/Pleomorphic Lipomas: The spindle cells are strongly positive for CD34 and negative for desmin, smooth muscle actin and S-100 protein. S-100 protein stains the nuclei of mature adipocytes. BCL-2 and CD10 are frequently positive in spindle cells but lack specificity to be of any use in separating spindle cell lipomas from its mimics. Rb expression is lost in spindle cell lipomas as discussed in the previous image.
