Nodular fasciitis with sclerosis

Topic: Nodular Fasciitis

Category: Fibrous Tissue

slide 5 of 6

Comments:
Thick collagen bands lined by spindle cells are nicely seen in this example of nodular fasciitis. The presence of cellular spindle areas, infiltrative margins, and high mitotic rate may lead to mistaken diagnosis of a sarcoma. Features favoring nodular fasciitis include a small, rapidly growing lesion of brief duration, lack of cytologic atypia, presence of keloid-type collagen, and extravasated red blood cells.   return to Nodular Fasciitis
