Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in Blast Transformation

This 79 y/o female with chronic myeloid leukemia presented with rapidly enlarging spleen. The splenectomy specimen showed a dark red surface devoid of white pulp. Majority of the large tumor cells seen here were positive for CD34. This is a case of chronic myeloid leukemia in blast transformation (Richter’s Syndrome).   return to Leukemias
