Prostatic xanthoma: CD68 immunostain

Topic: Benign Mimics of Prostate Cancer

Category: Prostate

slide 14 of 14

Comments:
In diagnostically challenging cases, a panel of immunostains consisting of CD68, CAM5.2, PSA and PSAP may be helpful in distinguishing prostatic xanthomas from high-grade prostatic adenocarcinoma. Most prostatic xanthomas are diffusely positive for CD68 (shown here), and negative for CAM5.2, PSA, and PSAP. Rare cases may be positive for prostatic markers. Chuang A, Epstein JI.
