RS Cells : Biomarker Summary

Comments:
Here's a summary of immunophenotype of Reed-Sternberg (RS) Cells:

POSITIVE MARKERS: CD30 (>90%), CD15 (75%-85%), PAX5, IRF4/MUM1, intermediate filaments (fascin, restin, vimentin), CD25, HLA-DR (Ia), CD40, CD20 (20%-40%, weak, heterogenous), LMP-1 (20%-75%; depends upon histologic subtype; see table above).

NEGATIVE MARKERS: CD45, CD43, EMA, Cytokeratin, ALK1, CD79a (may be rarely positive), J chain, T-cell markers (mostly negative), BOB1, Oct2 +/-, cytotoxic markers (granzyme B, TIA-1, perforin) +/-

The reactive background lymphocytes in classic Hodgkin lymphomas (cHL) are mostly mature T-cells. The only exception being nodular pattern of lymphocyte-rich cHL which shows predominantly B-cell follicles with expanded mantle zones.
